On Sept. 12, beginning at 9:00 PM, VCU Telecommunications will conduct failover tests in preparation for relocating our primary data center in 2Q2024.   Failover testing ensures our backup systems are functioning as designed.  These systems will provide voice continuity during the data center relocation.  We are expecting two testing windows during the maintenance period.

Window 1 - 9:00 PM
No outages are expected during this period.  However, as always, please ensure your employees have alternate means of communication.

Window 2 - Beginning between approximately 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
There will be two five-minute outages during this window at the beginning and the end of the testing period.  During the testing period, the following applications will not be available
  • Call Recording/Workforce Engagement - No calls will be recorded for the duration of the testing window.
  • Avaya Call Management System (CMS)
  • Call Back Assist
  • Ascom -   Ascom to Ascom calls will work.  Ascom to Avaya/Avaya to Ascom/Inbound and Outbound calling will not be operational during the testing window.

On 9/8/2023  11 PM  - 09/9/2023 5 AM our primary internet carrier has a need to repair fiber cable that will cause our primary internet connect to go down.  During this time, we will switchover to the secondary provider but during this change there will be a momentary outage.

The VCU Steam Plant is currently experiencing a network outage.  This outage also impacts the VCU Physical Plant Administration Building - 1050 Oliver Hill Way and Physical Plant Department Storage Facility - 1070 Oliver Hill Way.  There is currently no ETA for service restoration.  A ticket has been opened for the ISP providing connectivity to the VCU Steam Plant.

Network Services will be replacing a core router at Harris Hall on Friday August 18th starting at 9pm.  A network outage is expected to be minimal as the network cores are redundantly designed, however there could be a brief reconvergence.  This maintenance should be completed by 1am August 19th.

This maintenance should be completed by 1am Wednesday August 9th.

All of the PE's that connect to the Harris core also have redundant connections with the Poca core.  This maintenance should be completed by 11pm.

Our ISP, Segra,  for remote sites is currently experiencing outages and has degraded service.  We have currently only heard of issues for our Oliver Hill location (including Steam Plant).  A follow up post will be made on Segra resolves their issues.  Other remote sites include:

[closed] Currently our primary ISP connection is down and all internet connectivity has successfully been redirected to our backup link.  Network Services is currently reaching out to our primary ISP to resolve and determine nature of the outage.  A follow up post will be made once more information is known.
